The ColorSpec Color Coded ID System
AFCs ColorSpec ID System is a revolutionary new product color-coding system that provides visual identification of the cable type, voltage and number of conductors through a combination of colors on the exterior of the armor. Each cable is identified by a unique armor color and a repeating pattern of colored stripes matching the phase conductors on the inside. AFCs ColorSpec ID system includes cables for both 120 volt and 480Y/277 volt systems, making visual inspections easier and electrical installations safer.
The Stripes Color Code:
- The repeating striped pattern on the armor identifies the system voltage and phase conductors.*
- No identification is made on the armor for the neutral or 1st ground.
* Since most 120V system cables have a black phase conductor, it is not color identified on the armor.
Once you learn these keys, you can follow the AFC ColorSpec to easier cable identification. The following pages contain charts showing the different types of cables that are a part of the ColorSpec ID System.
The armor of 480Y/277 volt MC TUFF is color coded to match the colors of the phase conductors contained in the cable.
